Pratique de l'oral EAD

This course aims to help students develop their speaking and communication skills across various contexts and for a variety of purposes. To do so, the course will associate theoretical tools in rhetoric and in linguistics (discourse analysis, prosody) with practical analyses of video, audio and written documents, and with a variety of interactive activities (role play, group exercises). Students will work to improve the following skills:

- Adapting to one’s interlocutor and including them in one’s own discourse. Each situation of address requires a specific speaker stance: how can one’s discourse take the interlocutor’s expectations, knowledge and beliefs into account across various speaking contexts?

- Influencing one’s interlocutor. How can one explain, persuade, inspire or convince? What rhetorical tools can be used depending on the interlocutor or on the public?

- Learning to decipher a speaker’s argumentative intentions, as expressed by a combination of word choice, intonation, and gestures. How can we know when a speaker is trying to influence us, to convince us or to persuade us?

This course aims to help students develop their critical thinking as well as their speaking and communication skills across various contexts and for a variety of purposes, with a focus on argumentation, persuasion and rhetoric.
