Description
The course provides students with a foundation in the modern theory of international finance. It studies the assets and institutions of international financial markets. A key difference between these markets and others is the role of exchange rates relating the value of two or more national currencies.
Objectifs
The students will acquire knowledge on a wide range of topics in international finance and open-economy macroeconomics, including: the foreign exchange market, exchange rate determination, Purchasing Power Parity, the Mundell-Fleming model of output and exchange rate determination under fixed and flexible exchange rates, speculative attacks and the causes and consequences of international financial crises. We will also discuss various recent policy debates: the role of global imbalances in the recent financial crisis, and several recent proposals to reform the international financial system.
