Description
In this course students are introduced to the main areas of the law of real property of England and Wales, including, the freehold and leasehold estate, licences, possessory titles to land, easements, covenants, mortgages and trusts of land. Fundamental ideas such as possession, ownership and the meaning of property are also examined. The history of English land law is also studied, beginning at the time of the Norman Conquest of England and ending in 1925, with the legislation of that year.
Teaching is by means of lectures and tutorials, the latter giving the student an opportunity to contribute to classroom discussions. The material is examined in both a scholarly and practical way, and students are given the chance to apply existing legal principles to problem-based scenarios.
