Description
This course provides an introduction to English environmental law. It considers the regulatory style traditionally employed by UK law in this field and the evolution of regulatory techniques. It examines how criminal law is employed as a mechanism for environmental protection and the ways in which private law can also contribute. Classes will examine the procedural dimensions of environmental law with respect to public access to justice. We will see specific examples of environmental regulation dealing with contaminated land and environmental permitting as a method of pollution control. Classes will also consider the relationship of domestic regulation with European and international law..
