Description
The digitization of the economy is one of the most critical issues of our time. This course is about digital economics and how the digital economy influences markets, the society and organizations. To do so we focus on the Internet and digital platforms, mobile communications and network operators, social media and privacy.
We will identify and formalize the main features of the digital economy, in particular the economic characteristics of digital goods, analyze the specific business strategies employed by the firms, and discuss the implications of digitization for public policy. We will cover relevant theoretical and empirical material in industrial organization, and also discuss some timely case studies in class.
