This course focuses on the interactional aspect of language study through the theoretical and methodological frames of pragmatics and conversation analysis. The course will start with a theoretical introduction and will explain the key concepts of analytical philosophy and pragmatics, and their broader cultural/philosophical context. The second part of the course will apply those concepts to specific and iconic markers in interactional grammar (such as “in fact”, “actually”, the various instances of reported speech, evidential markers, change of state markers and more generally the parts of speech that express epistemic attitudes on the part of the speaker). Students will be introduced to major methods and issues in conversation analysis, and learn to construct concrete analyses within this framework. These concrete analyses will also address structural concepts at the macro level: sequentiality, repairs, turn-taking in conversation.
Ce cours portera sur l’étude linguistique des interactions, à travers les cadres théoriques et méthodologiques de la pragmatique et de l’analyse conversationnelle.
Objectifs
Développer les connaissances théoriques et la culture générale des étudiants en pragmatique et en analyse conversationnelle. Développer leur capacité d’analyse linguistique concrète dans le cadre de ces théories.
Évaluation
Formule standard session 1 - Contrôle continu : 2 devoirs sur table ou devoirs maison (semaine 6 et 12) correspondant à la fin de chaque partie du cours (partie théorique, partie pratique). Les devoirs consisteront en des questions de réflexion et/ou exercices d’application.
