Introduction to US law

Ce cours étudie les institutions fédérales étatsuniennes et la Constitution de 1787, en examinant les circonstances de sa rédaction et ratification, et l’évolution de son interprétation jusqu’à ce jour. Le cours sensibilise également les étudiant.e.s à des concepts clés (république, démocratie, pouvoirs / contre-pouvoirs, autocratie, autoritarisme, libertés fondamentales, hard / soft power) et à leur pertinence actuelle aux États-Unis.

 -- The course will present US institutions and will study the 1787 US Constitution, the context of its drafting and ratification, and its ever-changing interpretation by SCOTUS to this day. The course will also invite students to reflect on key political concepts (republic, democracy, checks and balances, autocracy, authoritarianism, Bill of Rights, soft / hard power) and to examine their relevance under the current administration.
