Seminar European Competition Policy

This course aims to train students in the practice of European competition policy, from the point of view of the underlying economic analysis. We cover the four branches of the European competition policy: horizontal agreements, anticompetitive practices, mergers and state aid. The sessions combine theoretical background (i.e. the relevant material in industrial organization) with the presentation of case studies illustrating the enforcement of competition policy by the European Commission and how the results of economic theory translate into its practice. Students will learn to perform competitive effects analysis, and critically discuss the application of competition law by competition agencies and courts of law.
