Description
This course presents classical experimental studies in social psychology, as well as recent work in this discipline. Concepts of experimental method (such as independent variables, dependent variables, experimental design, internal and external validity) are discussed with the presentation of each experiment. In addition, the theoretical framework and the construction of hypotheses are examined in detail, as well as possible applications to current social problems. The main topics covered are: motivation, emotion, decision-making, and biases in human decision. This teaching is also an opportunity to enrich one's vocabulary in English, specializing in social psychology.

Pré-requis obligatoires
Students are expected to have a basic understanding of general psychology, research methods, and introductory statistics. They should also be able to read scientific articles in English and write short academic answers in English.
Compétences visées
By the end of this course, students should be able to understand and apply key concepts and theories in experimental social psychology, analyze empirical studies critically, identify the main hypotheses, variables, and limitations of a study, and write short, well-argued academic answers in English using appropriate scientific vocabulary.

Le cours s’appuie sur des diaporamas de cours, des articles scientifiques en anglais, des exemples d’études expérimentales, ainsi que des exercices d’application et un examen blanc. Les étudiant·es seront amené·es à lire, comprendre et discuter des travaux empiriques présentés en séance, et à mobiliser ces contenus dans des réponses argumentées en anglais à l'oral comme à l'écrit.
